A Little Bit on the Kids

Here's a little update on Maggie and Jack... at their ages, they grow and change so much with each passing day...

Maggie is 2yrs 4 months and growing like a weed. The last time we were at the doctor, she was 34 inches tall and is now ~ 28lbs. She may be a little taller now, but her stats for the past year and a half have put her at 75% height and 10-20% weight. She obviously has her daddy's family genes of being tall and thin. She is absolutely non stop energy but it is great. She is a fantastic big sister - just loves on Jack all the time and loves to race around the house and yard with Daisy. Her vocabulary is thru the roof and she has recently started speaking pretty clearly in full sentences. Her climbing skills also seem to be exceptional. Her favorite things to do these days are collect sticks in the backyard, play in any pool/puddle of water she can find, pick flowers, draw pictures with me and Jon on her magna doodle and sing and dance (these are especially new). Her favorite show at the moment is a Dora the Explorer video of nursery rhymes and she just dances her little pants off while also trying to sing along.

Jack Jack is now 14 months old and has FINALLY just gotten a tooth! So far, just one of his bottom ones has popped through but I'm waiting for the next as he has had a runny nose all week. At one, he was already up to 32 inches and 24 lbs... closing in on Maggie quickly. He is around 50% weight and 70% height. He is walking like a champ now, and within the last week has learned how to stand up on his own in the middle of the room. He is not quite a committed walker, but he's close. He is up to about 5 words - Mama, Dada, baby, no, and baba (which is his sippy cup). He is very curious about everything and I think he's figuring out cause and effect with many of his toys faster than his sister did at his age. He is also very engaging and totally plays to his audience. For instance, this morning in his high chair, he was eating some oatmeal that I'd make kind of thick so he could pick it up with his fingers. And just as I looked over to check on him, he was bending down to just stick his face in it. And I laughed out loud, and that was all the encouragement he needed, he proceeded to do it another 4 times in a row, each time just waiting for my reaction. And he instinctively knows which item in the room can do him the most harm... and only wants to play with that thing. And screams like banchee (how do you spell this word?) when you stop him from doing so.

OH and about one of the funniest things both kids do is the Tarzan yell. We have the disney movie and when they watch it and Tarzan does his yell, you can hear 2 sets of totally monotone "aaaaaahhhhhhhhhh!"s in the room. It is about hysterical and I've been trying to catch it on camera for a month now.

Jacob and Jack Jack are very similar, except Jacob is tall and think like Maggie! Oh, and Jacob has more teeth. But yay for walking!

Jacob also likes to grab things (especially pens) and if you try to take them away he DOES scream like a banshee! (I'm pretty sure that's how it's spelled!) He's also playing to an audience...if he doesn't feel like you are paying enough attention he has been known to lie on the floor and kick his legs and wave his arms and fake cry. It's sooo hard not to laugh.

Christine- I love this section. I'm always so curious about what like is like for all my friends and their families, and I love to hear about children growing into their personality and learning and playing. Thanks for the update!
